Suncoast Charities for Children recognized the Sarasota Board of County Commissioners for their grant support, through Visit Sarasota, towards the Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix Festival during their Nov. 27 meeting. The 2018 Festival generated an Economic Impact of $21 Million, 14,800 room nights, and $322,000 in total resort & state sales tax recovered by the county. Over the past five years, a combined estimated economic impact of $140 Million was generated from the event. This annual Festival continues to showcase the Sarasota area with the races being televised on CBS Sports and the Fox Sports Regional Sports Networks nationally here in the United States. Globally it was broadcast to over 150 countries with a reach of over 500 Million people. A live stream of the races shown on Facebook had over 99,000 views. The Festival also saves money for the county in that the proceeds from the boat races go to maintaining buildings, valued at $20 Million, for some of our most important non-profits serving children and disabled adults like Loveland Center, Inc., The Florida Center for Early Childhood, Special Olympics Florida-Sarasota County, Children First, Inc., and The Haven. This means these non-profits can dedicate more money to providing human services county-wide. The 35th Annual Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix Festival is scheduled to take place June 28-July 7, 2019.
